College Librarian should get "Off Day" and should be "Vacational Staff" as Teachers

College Librarian is an Academic Staff of a College as per UGC. They should get the benefit of "Off Day" or "Pre Day" for the preparation/ study/ research in the field of 'modernisation of library' as well as they should be treated as "Vacational Staff". Libraries are changing with a speed of Duronto Express and we should have to change our library with this speed, otherwise we have to collapse and our profession will be collapsed. That's why, one day off in a week and the vacations are needed.

I am Agree with you Sir
Sorry. I disagree with this view. Librarians are non vaccational teaching faculty. Moreover library is  a service centre not only for the students but also for faculty and others. Librarian's role is like head of the department. Some more facility like study leave etc should be extended to us....
agreed with Dr. Ray we are non vacational teaching staff and we should fight for other facilities

Dear Mr. Debkumar,

You are 200% correct and I am 2000% agree with you. I have been advocating this since my joining in the college in 2006.In 2008, I met DPI, West Bengal several times regarding related points and he suggested me to submit an application raising those points. Accordingly I submited  an application to the DPI but he did not respond to it.Recently we have submitted a memorandum to the Hon'ble MIC, Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal which consists the point you have mentioned including Redesignation of Librarian as Assistant Professors, inclusion of the term librarian within the term Teacher, inclusion of librarianship as teching experience. Let us fight together what we deserve (our right too) otherwise we will be forced to accept what we get.

Dear Mr. Chaudhuri

Thanks for your meaningful reply. I am always with you. I think, our problem will be solved very easily by changing our designation to Assistant Professor (Library), Associate Professor (Library), Professor (Library) as you have mentioned earlier.

Regards,

Debkumar

Dear Mr. Chaudhuri,

Is there any positive response from the Higher Education Dept., Govt. of West Bengal against the said memorandum?

Pl. let us know the status.

Regards,

Debkumar

If Librarians become vacational staff, who will atke care of the libarary in vacation.?

2ndly, Librarians are getting some additiona facilty for working in vacations like 30 days EL, 2 RH etc.

The working days are compensated with LEAVE according to UGC norms.

In case of off day: We do not need off day for preparation. What should we prapare?

Dear Professionals,

The above discussion should have more coverage. Come on colleagues, discuss the above matter and give your valuable opinions.

Regards,

Dear Sir,

Librarians should be treated as teachers. Regarding vacational or non vacational staff or off days, off day(s) are any humans right, why we are working if we don't find time or a day in a week for our family and to fulfill some of the social belongings, so we should have no right to live in a society and immediately we have to left for jungles by taking sanyaas. As far as vacations are concern librarians or library schedule should be desined as per the calender schedule of the particular institute or college. A library may be kept open for the knowledge aspirants but when a couple of people visits library during vacation days then what is the fun in keeping it open for whole day and kept one or more persons busy without work at the cost of electricity, water, and other resources, materials etc. I mainly found people come to the library in their leasure hours for the fruitful utilisation of time, untill and unless they have to collect material or do literature earch for their forthcoming exams or preparation for seminars etc.

So librarians timings may be adjusted in such a way that it fulfills peoples need as well as welfare of librarians as per the institutions year schedule and also not at the cost of wastage of resources. Students turnup is also very important during the period.

I agree with you and we must go to the Hon'ble High Court regarding Re-designation.Please share me the supporting documents for Re-designation.
