why Library profession is in poor position in India

Dear Professionals

In India Library profession is in very poor position due useless work and internal corruptions mostly jobs are in pending position and nobody taking care for active selection. Many states has Library Legislation Act but there is no proper response, mostly state Governments ruling are dead and inactive position for library profession. In library Sr. Positions are very negative with development progress of staff and completely failed in profession progress. Library profession   is very unsatisfactory, it is true mostly peoples are doing different kind of works after having library degree because they getting more comparatively library jobs.

So it is essential to Seniors  to play dynamic role and stop demoralization and its right time to change life of  key profession

Dear sri Mukesh Bharti

Of Course the seniors has a moral responsibility but unfortunately, as my experience says, few  seniors will come forward as they have noting to gain out of it!! When I was a new comer, I often expected that our seniors will do this or that. then I realised that if it is our battle we have to fight it. We developed a confederation of all the employees associations of all the institutes of the council we have been working under. when the activities gained momentum, Senior peoples started to sneak in. So in the present case, please forget about seniors and try yourselves. If you succeed, you will see that seniors are sneaking in but please keep them at bay. Me being a "senior" ( As I have elapsed around 3 decades in this profession) can tell you that we, the seniors are quite cunning  and can manipulate by virtue of seniority.

I am also agree with you sir...Its reality...

pl change your thinking  and take it positively if u  have 3 decades  working profile after that u talking like this .It is very bad to our profession.Sorry nothing possible.

Dear Sri Mukesh Bharti;

I appreciate your feelings but what I have said is derived from experience over the years.

Yes, it hurts me bad to say all these but they are reality.

I have observed high profile seniors just stealing off travel grants meant for juniors offered by International agencies to enjoy higher rates of per diem. I witnessed seniors to manipulate positions in various councils but ultimately did nothing for the profession. So I have no illusion and I am confident that if you have to achieve something for yourself, do it yourself.  Of course there are exceptions but exceptions are exception only!!

In my workplace all I try to do is not to repeat the treats I have experienced!!

In my capacity, if I can not do good to my juniors, at least I should not make any harm to them as a senior co-professional.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

THANKS

you are right sir .........

I agree with Ray sir that they(student) dream of high position because they are very much acquainted with their choices ,they gather information from different sources about their dream..however library science and librarian are peculiar one.Frankly in blisc entrance exam,i only prepare an essay about library from an essay book.Even becoming a graduate. Then the student of high school and higher secondary, they didn't think about our profession. So,it will great step if library subjects are optional papers in higher secondary or as a vocation papers in W.B board of education.Becoz, a librarian have to take classes in school however not in our subjects.......

We should accept the fact. along with other reasons i.e., Govt. Policy, Weak Library Associations, Library Legislation, Poor quality of professionals is also a factor.

I think some subjects like Communication Skills, Personality Development, IT portion should  also be included in syllabuses of B.Lib.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. as well as in refresher courses.

It is noticeable that, those professionals who have good communication skills, better presentation skills and knowledge of IT are holding good position as well as sufficient respect and credit.

I agree with Dr. N. K. PACHAURI

Dear Sir,

I want to say also many library associations are available in India but they are not working truly for Library professionals. They should conduct training program time to time for us. Many professionals want to get knowledge of Library automation but this type training programs are available  but only on high tuition fee and Delhi, Bombay type big cities.

one thing i want to tell u sir ... every association emerge with it's mission and vision, they are hardly bound to fulfill that mission and vision and perform activities to fulfill those mission and vision that have been decided at the time of emergence of association.

so sir it's not not the mistake of association that they are doing the work of our desire it may be that they  take some time to perform the missioned work but they never oppose to do the work which come under the periphery of it's mission and vision.

and another things no one blame on them that they are not running any training program for librarian to teach them about any solution.

it's ur duty to learn those things which is essential for u...and key to ur success.

as i learn mlis and blis and any other course as per my needs and requirements...

Sir if u know any other institution or association  which is not working toward it's mission and goals so plz u may pull them here ....so that we could ask them and be bound them to do as mentioned in there mission statements.
