Are Library and Information Professionals are sweepers?

In Gujarat the Library and Information Science professionals have no value. We are like peon. Our salary is 900 to 2,500 per month, but our expenditure on education is Rs. 22,000.

My friends please do something to improve the situation. We have to evolve to demonstrate what really the librarianship is.

Some strong library association should be formed.

Dear Harshal,

That's a very sad story, Gujarat is the state where INFLIBNET headquarter is base and you know the value of INFLIBNET. So what is wrong with the state?

Yes definitely, what is ILA doing?

Dear Harshal

This is not the story of only Gujrat.I all the states situation is almost same.We had done effort to make strong organization. But library most of the Library professionals are in deep sleep.

yes

Dear Sir,

Majority of the Educational Institutions are not respecting the Library Professionals. They have a feel that they are simply sit and doing certain clerical works. Compared with a driver, electrician, accountant in a college, librarian are got lesser salary and more work. Only few Institutions give good response and respect to the Library Professionals that also we can count and say . Many of the association started only for namesake within their geographical area. They had a main function by conducting conference in the name development of professionalism. They are not concentrating the problems to the member. All the compliant and solutions are in the words of water and not for actions.

And sorry to say this. There is no coordination among our professionals. If a teacher is having a small issue, all the teachers unions are jointly protesting. But far ours problems we are still following the individuality.

Union is the strength. If we raise our voice with unity, we must get sort our problems.

But who is going to Initiate?

Harshal ji,

what you have shared with us is very true. it is not the story in Gujrat but also in U.P.. Here to each one we have to explain that librarian 's job is not to sit leisurely and to shout only for silence but they the information professionals.   in western u.p. there is no regular classes in university even the subject is not there, no books, no guidance.

even if you join best school or college they are saying "You have less work" so do other jobs also....

yes, i am also feeling that we should unite to divide the problem because "unity is strength"

with regards

Dear Sir,
Unforutnetly the situation is very worst for library professionals in the private sector. but we have to fight for this. First try to fight independently. if the situation did not resolve at your end. Raise your voice. We all library professionals are with you. Don't worry.

Kindly ignore Unforutnetly and consider Unfortunately word.

i think when all the budhoties(old men) of lis field are retired from his jobs than the right time will come  for lis in india because they are not interested in development of lis profession  they are only  interested in poor politics and personal name and fame

I agree

Dear Harshal,

You are more than right. It is the same story everywhere in guise of different forms. You know, I want to share you another story with all of you. When a joined in 2006 a renowned women's college in kolkata under the University of Calcutta, one aged professor told me that -"we consider librarians are lesser human being . They are simply a dignified clerk". Responding to that I gave her thanks for giving me inspirartion and told her that I will be trying to become human till the last breath of my life. Till that date I took an oath and promised to myself I will fight for the cause to make the librarians as profession from non-human entity to human at least in our college. But after 6 years in this college no teacher dare to disrespect a librarian.Only that few words help me inspired to get the highest vote in college election and I have become teacher's representative in the Governing Body (Highest Decision Making Body) for 2 times, NAAC Coordinatior, WBCS training Coordinatior and member of all administarive & academic committees. It was not my achievement . It's the achievements of librarians. Her hate made me stubborn to make them compel to respect librarians what we deserve. We have to fight back through our achievements-academic as well as administrative. My book has been published from Germany and has national/internal publications. Make them feel we are not subordinate to them. We are teacher in our own right. All Library oraganisations are simply full of opportunistic people. I am not the member of any Library organisations. My dear Harshal we all are with you, but you haveto fight back wherever you are .Never compromise with the disrespect of your self respect. That is the ultimate mantra in every profession.  Have faith on He and He will do everything for you. Every sincere calls are answered.

with best wishes.

Sir, I  m properly agree with you. i also made place in my profession inspite of narrow thinking about this profession in the minds of teaching faculity.
