i also want  the same information

madam y to campalsary hai.Purchase karnehi padenge.our aabhi tak AICTE handbook may koi change nahi hua hai.

Dear Madam these E journals are mandatory for all AICTE Affiliated colleges. So must be purchased.

Thks a lot to all but I also want to know about usage of these costly journals. In whole year how many people use journals and specially E-journals.

Its obvious madam jee less use of all e-journals....bt wht we can do...

Dear Ms. Namrata Joshi,

Thanks a lot for your comment. I really appreciate your  concern. This is a practical problem & a common one - under utilization of available resources.

I am delighted to see that young people of new generation are also equally concerned about such matters!

Your concern took me back to my old days when I came into the profession in early 80s!! In those days, India had a very meager  foreign currency reserve, and barring a few, most of the Indian Research establishments had to control their foreign Journal subscriptions, as a result, in bigger cities a sort of informal (meaning unofficial)  mutual arrangement  of cooperative acquisition of foreign journals used to exist so that researchers in a city can have access to larger numbers of such journals.

In those days, since the supply used to be less demand used to be more so the rate of  utilization, as I believe, had been comparatively better than the present days. You know, it is a natural phenomena that if things are easily available, the loose their importance!!

At present, when India is in a better financial position and because of introduction of E-materials, when researchers and academics are getting access to huge resources at their own institutions, they are taking them as granted!!  This is what is called the problem of plenty!!

As a gatekeeper of knowledge resources, your concern is absolutely genuine & it irked an emotional feelings within myself. I pray to God to bestow our profession with more and more individuals like you!!

Wish you good luck in your effort.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

The usage of these e- journals depend on the faculty and infrastructure provided by the institute's management.

If someone desired to do something extra in his profession(specially Education and Teaching), he or she must be use these e- journals or Journals.

Madam, It is mandatory for all AICTE Affiliated colleges. So must be purchased.

Dear Madam

i also thinking same,  E-journals subscription are  mandatory for all AICTE Affiliated colleges. So must be purchased.

but what about its used?  are we subscribed these packages only for AICTE? or profit for publishers?

i think everyone facing same issue,  in my library we are trying hard to use e-journals by users

display E-journal package URL with  login ID and Password also created new lab, Digital Library with lot of PC but output very less I think in engineering institute students has UG level so there is no need to E-Journals, E-Journals mostly used by PG students as well as research scholar students or faculty

librarians are trying to develop students  oriented library but now a days students want everything ready made like fast food

Dear All!

Thanks a lot for your answers. We all know about library consortia. Why we not purchasing e-journals in consortium level.another idea is library networking.if we take one city,if their academic requirement is same why they should purchase same things. They can use ILL or DDS services. We all have to think about this duplication and non use information.

If all need to oppose and make them understood about the real picture.I also think it is very necessary for education.Today level of education is very down. But ,put e-journals mandatory is not the solution.Generally students use books frequently.

In the time of resource sharing ,DELNET also plays a very good role for DDS. What's wrong in it?they subscribe e-journals packages and   give the DDS as required to the member institutions. We can also make same environment for the DDS.

Please comment and what can we do for that?

Dear madam

your suggestions are very good but  fact is that E-journals subscription are mandatory by AICTE so All Librarians should communicate to AICTE on this issue and try to convey them about present situation of E-journals use in each and every library I think someone take lead to do minor research on this topic & report submit to AICTE

I support the idea of making it felt at AICTE either through DELNET or through Engineering Institutes Association. For example all these ejournal portals are free to search and individual libraries can pay for each article downloaded/ requested by a central institution which can buy the article for us. With a price 12 to 15 lakhs each institution will be able able to get at least 1000 articles in all. The choice would be unlimited.
