Entrepreneurial Scope of Information Science Professionals

Many of our colleagues are not getting the right job they deserved after their BLISc/MLISc degree. Some others even are shifting to other jobs, where MLISc / BLISc are not needed. Recently I go through some articles on alternative carriers in Librarianship. Even we are organizing one Regional Seminar on Entrepreneurial Approach of Library Professiona.... So I would like to have the opinion of my professionals colleagues regarding what else can be done with the BLISc/BLIB/MLISc degree? What are the possible scopes of a Librarian to be an entrepreneur?

Thats the point Babita. I am trying to explore the possible alternatives. There must be some scope, the need is only to explore.

Mrs. Lalitha Panchanathan, a Library Professional, residing in Secunderabad is doing an immense contribution towards Library Profession. She is working as a Freelancer, taking up Projects like Library Organising, for Institutions, where some organisations do not need a fulltime Librarian, at same time they are interested to get their small collections organised. Also few Colleges had taken her services, to cope-up with pending works of Books Classification..etc.

In the process she trains the existing Librarians, with her vast experience of 18 years and guides a number of librarians as to how to cope-up with their tasks and how to put across to the managements about their needs and a good number of their problems.

She also trained quite a number of non professionals into the library works, and contributed to articles about existing Library conditions and Librarians.

She can dwell more on this topic.

Wonderful information. Can I have here details. Mobile number? Email?

Thank. I noted it down.

Good Afternoon sir, its a  very good idea sir....

Sir
1. I think there should be a National council for Libraries. Which has to redesign all the courses regarding LIS.This should also be a standered for all the institutions of the country those have the Library. The NCL will be responsible for all the recruitment need of the LIS professional in country.
2. For LIS course now it should be multidisciplinary approach. A student may chose some discipline (may be more than one) with his bachelor degree in which he wants to pursue his carrier after completion his studies.
3. Any Library should be a information centre for the need of local people.

  • Since ICT bang the globalization, as we are the source of information science why not an unemployed, Blisc/Mlisc, could use this channel and work it on it... for libraries which are not   modernized

  • Also we can try to work with NGO s, Government schools, to promote the children reading habits; really librarians make a key role in this, to make a   better vision/mission to a child
