Basic objective of distance learning is for working professionals only but others are taking the advantage. As per knowledge is concern regular mode of learning is more practical & indepth then distance learning. In Distance learning knowledge will be at the surface level.
agreed but in last few years it badly affect the quality of lis education
Dear Rohit i am not agree with you ,It is not necessary that knowledge level of a regular degree holder is more than a correspondence degree holder. it is my personal experience a regular degree holder has low knowledge then a correspondence because so many universities which conduct library sc. courses don't provide any training for it.

sunita
That's your own perceptions and experience. but not justifyed !
In my view distance mode of education affects the quality of the practical knowledge specially in case of professional courses whether it is LIS or any other. LIS is majorly a practical oriented discipline and in distance mode our peers use to focus only on the theoretical portion of the subject. The interaction between teacher and students is also not exist like in regular mode. The candidate's main motto is to qualify the exam only. I have personally observed this thing.
agreed so that authorities must think about this and frame a policy for the betterment of profession
ok now a days these distance institution distribute degree like a baniye ki dukan so i request all the professionals please frame a policy for lis education through distance mode
In any Professional courses alike med. law. Eng. OR LIS There should not be any Distance mode of education, coz it is Practice less.
Hi ya...

In my opinion, distance learning is not only for working professionals, even for adult learner's, house wives, for people who got deprived of education for some reason, etc....
In my view, there is no problem with distance learning courses, actually it is depend on person 's attitude if person want to grow as professional and established himself than view of taking education is different either it is regular courses and distance learning course it depend on their condition , i have seen many cases of regular studies they are not thinking logically, they applied only things which they learn during their courses..............
Education mode is not a matter in the education system. Please Amazon if a person is working in the library last ten years and a person get certificate/diploma in the field of library science then which person has more knowledge.

IGNOU pass out lack of student every year in many fields of education and all over India the number in so many lacks but no one object it.

Question arise there

Who frames polices for education.
If distance education is affect quality of education should be closed.
It is not fair that university conduct courses and earn money and public will suffer after that.
It’s come in the picture and police of higher education the India policy maker start net in the field of higher education and removes seven times in the twenty years of period. It’s a Wright or wrong. This type of double standard should not come in over policies.
Distance education for LIS could be better if those offering such courses would either provide library with LIS books or membership of some library that has sufficient books on LIS. Providing course materials is simply not sufficient, after all what's a learner suppose to do after he has read those few course material books? Reread it?
Learners can read many LIS books to get basic understanding of the profession rather than boost to friends that "I studied within last 15 days"
