YES IT IS VALID

Dont worry madam. Its the recognized and valid degree only.

ugc has banned  M Phil degree th distance mode since 2006-07

I enrolled in M.Phil. in 2006 and completed in 2008 from Alagappa Uni. through distance mode. As Mr. RK mentioned that ugc has banned  M Phil degree through distance mode since 2006-07. Then whether my M.Phil is valid or not?

Harf College, Malwerkotla (Pb.)

NOW A DAYS NO PHD / M PHIL IS VALID THROUGH DISTANCE MODE (OTHER THAN IGNOU).

It is valid Mam but nowadays M.Phil programme not available in distance mode.

Please give me proof regarding this.
I have not done Mphil. But i require some proof regarding this if the degree is not valid. Please attach proof if someone has.

Validity means if you get call letter for higher position or any incentives for acquiring higher qualification then we can feel happy.

But some interview board members are under estimating those qualified from distance education mode.(my experience)

Thank you

Consulted to Dr. Pyare Lal (Assistant Librarian, Punjab University, Chandigarh), Because he is the authorized guide of Alagappa University

Dont worry this is valid degree only

 recognized and valid

Dear Ms. Seema Sood,

Thanks for your post and the query you have put before the forum members because as I presume, many professionals are keenly watching the issue (the discussion is already viewed by 341 (individuals!!)

"Recognition" technically means recognition by competent authority.

In general it means whether it is approved & recognised by UGC/AICTE etc.

Plainly speaking, whether the Degree will enhance your qualifications and thereby you will be able to get service benefits, enhanced Pay Scales etc. This issue has been adequately explained by Dr. Venugopal as I saw.

From the posts of other members you may understand that the issue is both critical & confusing until Mr. Mandeep Singh clarified this one.

But in practical sense, by and large M.Phil in distant mode is not accepted freely as those as regular courses. This bitter yet true fact.  May be if you apply at Punjab University, Chandigarh, they will accept it but it may not be the same for other Universities elsewhere. So, to remain in the safe side, just consult the UGC site and get confirmation from them (as Competent Authority) to save your effort, time & money.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta
