Why it is not called as Librariar?
The posts ending with the letter 'n' like watchman, foreman, loadman, wireman, postman..(their qualifications is 10th standard, 12th standard, ITI only).. etc are considered as low grade posts. But Library professionals are well educated and their designation also ends with 'n' like librarian, assistant librarian, deputy librarian..etc. So there is no respect in working place and in the public also. But posts ending with the letter 'r' like professor, teacher, doctor..etc are considered as higher grade posts and respected in the public. Since our library professionals are well educated, why our designation should not be changed as 'LIBRARIAR' instead of 'Librarian'.?

and Mr. MANIC PERUMAL there are much debates for librarianship. If you are a self motivated you can achieve a lot of respect. why to judge yourself by any an, ar or er?
We in LIS professionals manage knowledge and there is no society which prosper without knowledge.
If the knowledge get lost society extinct.
Management and dissemination of knowledge is as essential as knowledge creation. Be a part of Noble profession and become a proactive partner in knowledge and information generation, preservation and dissemination if you do it honestly without comparison. You feel honored other wise it is very easy to find frustrated people in every profession.

samveg you have given very good answer with good example. one should think about the profession before joining Mr. perumal still time is there you can think of changing the profession.i being librarian i enjoy my profession .
