Representation to UGC by ILA on Model Cadre Recruitment Rules for Non-Teaching Posts of Central Universities

Dear LIS Professionals,

We are pleased to inform you that on behalf of all the LIS fraternity, the Indian Library Association (ILA) has met the chairman of University Grants Commission and discussed the problems facing by our academic library professionals and academic libraries. As you are aware that the UGC has released new Model Cadre Recruitment Rules for Non-Teaching Posts of Central Universities, in which the Librarian (Academic staff) cadre posts also included under non-teaching staff. It’s objectionable and need a stern action by the UGC in order to maintain the parity of Assistant Librarian, Dy. Librarian, and University Librarian positions with other teaching staff. In view of the above, the executive council members of Indian Library Association (ILA) has given written representation to the chairman, UGC and he is expressed his willingness to go through it and resolve all the issues of our profession. We would like to thank all our LIS professionals and previous office bearers of ILA for their support and contribution in this regard. ILA always wanted to keep up the good work for the LIS community.

Has the UGC issued any rectification in this regard?

Thank You, sir, for the kind information. What will be the promotion policy for other positions in the library rather than AL, DL & Librarian? Is there any policy for Professional Assistant promotion at AL?
