Guidance Needed: Is MLIS Sufficient for Jobs Requiring BLIS Eligibility?
Hi everyone, I’m Sebastine Robert
I am from Tamil Nadu and have completed my M.Lib.I.Sc. (Master of Library and Information Science) in 2025 from Bishop Heber College, affiliated with Bharathidasan University. I am currently working as a Library Trainee at IIT Madras (IITM).
I am seeking guidance on the following:
Since I already hold an M.Lib.I.Sc. degree, is it necessary to pursue a BLIS (Bachelor of Library and Information Science) separately for job eligibility, or is M.Lib.I.Sc. alone sufficient?
Some job notifications still specifically mention BLIS as a requirement. In such cases, how can I obtain an equivalence certificate to officially confirm that my M.Lib.I.Sc. covers BLIS requirements?
I would greatly appreciate insights and advice from professionals, faculty members, and fellow LIS graduates regarding this matter.
