In New UGC Plan and Pay Commission, Librarian Post is Converted to Non Teaching and Low Pay Scale

Dear Professional friends,

Today one senior lecturer of one college was telling that Librarian Post of Senior college is being converted into non-teaching post in new UGC plan and new pay commission and also they will not give librarian the Associate Professor grade of Rs. 37400 in future.

Is anybody know latest about this development.

Please inform and share this in the forum.

Is it really rumor or a serious matter?

Dear Reddy,

How it cannot affect the existing professionals? After new hike the gross salary of Assistant Professor may be around Rs. 75,000/- but they may restrict us at the present level.

Again its not a matter of salary. UGC hiked the salary of teaching staff to attract the best talent towards it and if they downfall the present status of Librarians- the profession that are striving hard to attract the talent, the situation would be worsen.

Again in my opinion the status of the Librarian is directly linked to the reading habit, quality education.

Please have a look at the Point C...

on the subject of those meeting only known by the National Library Association and Staff.

http://7cpc.india.gov.in/meetings.html,

Through the help of all related library associations and all the librarians gather make some meetings in all the state take some important decisions immediately pressure to  MHR Department and take this matter to PM

Dear Mandal, yes you are right. Still we dont have any representation in the 7CPC.

Its better to stop the graduate, postgraduate, M.Phil and Phd courses in Library and information science. In all universities. It may help those jealous teaching professionals to express their professionalism much more better. , than updating the old LIS syllabus, including IT.

dear all
I things its time to collect our all unity of library professionals for save our professional because if we are not aware this time then definitely it will be harmful for us. So call all the association of library and information science and take a appropriate action about it.

We have to do somthing to save our profession from this problem. Otherwise the day is very near the value of a librarian will be come down & the non-LIS professionals like IT professionals come fowards to handel the stearing of the library and Information centers. Recently we have seen that the qualification for a library post increasing day to day like MCA, B.Tech, BE, B.Sc in Computer Science or IT.

Now in Government requirement norms, the qualifications for a post of an Asst. Librarian is Master's degree 55%  and NET qualified. The same required for the post of the teaching Staffs. We know NET is for qualified for Assistant Professor/Junior Research Scholar or the both. Why the requiter team need NET qualified candidates for the Asst. Librarian posts which are count under the non-teaching posts? The librarians should get all the respects and benefits as the same as the teaching staffs get.

Atul jee, with utmost respect to you, I tell you, if you are a library or information professional then you don't deserve to be one. It seems that you have not as yet understood the basics of your profession, which is soley based on the authority and authenticity of information which must be always supported by evidence. I must say by indulging in this kind of irresponsible practice you are  not just doing injustice to your profession,  but also spreading baseless and irresponsible rumours. I suggest  you to remove you post without wasting much time and before some irreversible damage is done.

I would suggest you to also seek public apology for this irresponsible posting.

Dear Pandita,

I dont understand why Atul R. Sidurkar should seek a public apology here? He clearly indicated in the post that he came to know about this from a senior lecturer. I want to thank him for bringing it into our notice and It it time to prepare our-self for such kind of move. The recent moves from UGC and MHRD are not in favour of us and the points that are raised by Atul may happens very soon.

I completely agree with Mr. Barman that there is nothing to apologize by Mr. Sidurkar for his post.Downgrading and underestimating library professionals is nothing new to us. Librarians are still struggling to get their deserved status all over India. Relegating library professionals by their status has already evident from some recent moves by UGC such as depriving librarians from MRP, FDPs. The AISHE of MHRD has shown college librarians as non-teaching staff and categorised in line of other non-teaching staff of the college (DCF II - colleges under universities). So how can we say this is just a rumor? And by the way, Mr Pandita, do you have any evidence in support of your opinion that it is just a rubbish and we have nothing to worry about? I think it's time to get together and make a strong move to resist such unjustified discrimination keeping all disputes aside.

Dear Kar,

Yes, you are right. I forgot to mention the case of AISHE. Thanks for bringing it to the focus.

When this forum post was in the pending status, I thought thrice before approving it. I approved it because I found sufficient reason in favour of a fruitful discussion before its too late. When I shared this post over my Facebook profile, page and group, a lot of people directly attacked me, that's why later on I am forced to remove it. Things should not go that way.
