Why AICTE made the specific online e-resources mandatory?

AICTE has made some e-resources mandatory for all AICTE approved institution. It would cost around Rs.  9 Lakhs to 13 Lakhs. Is this decision beneficial to users (students + staff) of institution or the foreign companies those are the publishers / distributors / sellers of these specific products? Does it not seem the play behind the carton?

It would be justified  If AICTE makes mandatory availing the e-journals in a given qty., but the motive of this decision seems doubtful.

AICTE take a decision to e-resources made mandatory for all approved institutions. I would like to say that subscription of e-resources  must be mandatory for all institutions but condition must be change. It should compulsory for all institutions to subscribe minimum 5  good e-resources of the subject studied in the institution and a list of subscribe must send to AICTE every year.

Thanks for our kind reply. I am fully agree with you.

Aicte given mandatory order for e journals subscription package.this is very high expensive package.aicte given to hign price package to all e journals subscription supplier.Particularly elsevier and ieee and asme.this is wastage money to unrelated subscription journals. last time conducted elsevier connect seminar programme at chennai.most of the LIs professional raising/asking that related questions.

Dear All,

my EducationTimes.com hosted by The Times of India has also published a news on it's poratal that Mr.H. Chaturvedi, Director, Birla Institute of Management Technology has also wrote a letter in this regard. I have quoted some lines below from that news.

In a letter to the HRD minister, Birla Institute of Management Technology director H Chaturvedi said, “I do not understand why a government body must mandate the purchase of certain journals printed by specific publishers? We demand an inquiry into this matter.”

Please go through the link given below for full News.

Does anyone have information regarding the current status of hearing in court? As It has been heard that association of AICTE approved private colleges has appealed  in court for a stay.

 Sir,

What's going on in the regarding AICTE  Mandated subscriptions for on-line journals-2014.
