Dear Sri Sudhakar,

The answers to your questions 2 & 3 are given earlier by other LISLinks Members.

However for reference to Q2 you may consult www.businessdictionary.com

For Q3, you amy consult any Book on Library Building or wikipedia (Modular design - Buildings)

But for the first question, it require several inputs like the type of the Periodicals and the rank of the staff and his/her jobs involved. It is easily understandable that the staff requirements have huge variations according to the form of periodicals (hard copy or soft copy) In earlier days, when I came into this profession and heading a relatively small yet extremely dynamic library of National Biomedical Research Institute with around 135 hard copy journals (mostly foreign) with diverse frequencies Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly, Bi-monthly (6 times a Year) & Quarterly and I used to have heck of activities (with just one Technician to assist for periodical management). now I see just one young fellow (Cert. in Lib. Sc.) is enough to manage some 650+ periodicals Under supervision) as they are mostly Online & Clustered!! So In case all the journals are E-Journals and are Clustered Subscription I presume one moderately senior (Like Asst. Librarian person and a technical hand (with just Cert. in Library Science) can easily management of 1000 periodicals Provided of course you have requisite infrastructure like Computer terminals, site encryption, Printers and speedy connectivity.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha Shankar Ray, Calcutta

Dear Siddharth,
