Yes It is required because it is authenticated copy for the library.

thank you sangeeta.for giving more insight.some of the parameters are really essential but storing so much data in acceession register is difficult also.we can  maintain the  details in the short . thank you once again

In large automated environments think about 1lakh and above books the use of accession register is not encouraged. The sheer volume of the books being acquired makes accessioning is a repetitive, time consuming, written activity compared to online cataloguing, data entry, import, export of machine readable data into a database. As our libraries are small we may continue and spare time to accession and then create another record for the database.

sir its true in large  library its duplication of work.our  collection is 127,000 still we maintain both becouse  software

may stop working any time. thank you for  participating in the disscussion

I am looking after the Acquisition Section (book) of the Central Library, IIT Kharagpur. We are maintaining manual accession register although we are doing data entry using the application software package LibSys.

(a) Order No. & date  (b) Discount

 - should be added along with your suggested information.

In the remark column one should incorporate information regarding accompanying materials like CD, DVD or Floppy (if any). It is very important to note down information relating to - paperback/hardbound form; gifted item etc.

Mam

Thank you for given the true and authentic column that help the new comer librarian in the library in any where.
