You could be joining the Global leader in personalized content discovery and viewer insight, helping to deliver great TV & Media content recommendations to 80+ customers worldwide including Tata Sky.

The Role

The ThinkAnalytics Content Recommendations Engine (CRE) analyses data from multiple content sources in order to provide recommendations for movies and television programmes. The CRE uses domain-specific thesauri and lists of pre-classified content to extract every shred of information from the customer catalogue data. All this has to be done for multiple languages. ThinkAnalytics is continually improving its thesauri, content catalogues and techniques used for data extraction. ThinkAnalytics is hiring an information scientist to work as a member of the team that works on these improvements.

 

Note: While we work with other teams like data science and big data, this position specifically works at analyzing data from an Information Science point of view, i.e. this is NOT a data science position

Key responsibilities

You will work in our new, modern Pune office within a highly skilled and experienced team to:

 

  • Analyzing the genre and feature information in catalogues (that include film and television content) from various countries and establish the right strategy to deliver the best recommendations
  • Analyzing the customer’s metadata to identify any issues that may impact the quality of the recommendations
  • Ensuring that the customer genres have maximum advantage of the ThinkAnalytics thesauri (inhouse vocabulary)

Skills & Experience

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

 

  • A degree in Information Science/ Information Management/ Library and Information Science Since this is an Associate level position, we are open to candidates from other backgrounds, but it is essential that they have prior experience in metadata curation/metadata tagging/development of taxonomies or thesauri/classification systems.
  • An affinity for and in-depth knowledge about film and television content – both regional and international (international being key).
  • Excellent data research and analysis skills.
  • An eye for details/is detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written English.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (especially MS Excel) and general computer skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to use different tools and technologies creatively and effectively.
  • Shows interest in using technology to solve business problems and the willingness and ability to learn about new technology and contribute in discussions and generation of new ideas
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Follows in-house processes methodically.
  • The ability to work independently but also as part of a wider team – we are a close-knit team and it is important you are a team player!
  • Possesses good organizational and time management skills.

 

Desirable skills

In addition to the above, it would be great if you also have:

 

  • A background in linguistics/media studies/film studies.
  • Knowledge of additional regional or foreign languages (read-write-understand).
  • Knowledge or experience with indexing (e.g., for books or movies).
  • Experience in using relational databases and SQL .
  • Experience using GIT and/or other version control systems.
  • Knowledge/experience of any mark-up language (XML) or programming language.
  • Knowledge/experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Unix/DOS
