Recruitment for the Position of BLIS MLIS Students and Experience Candidate at Private Company

The ideal candidate will be responsible for creation of original and adaptive cataloging records for books, audiobooks, and e-content; would also be responsible to Assign subject headings, classification numbers and write brief descriptive summaries.

Key Responsibilities 

• Create original records for books, audiobooks, and e-content, using Unabridged Dewey and Library of Congress classification and Library of Congress subject headings, in MARC21 format and according to RDA rules, national standards, cataloging policies.

• Format and utilize publisher- and LC-supplied information and/or cataloging surrogates to generate cataloging records according to national standards and policies.

• Creates cataloging records by adapting, converting, and updating data from existing records; as needed; applies research and decision-making skills to provide new records consistent with national and company standards. • Updates pre-publication records

• Write brief descriptive summaries (annotations) using item in hand or pre-publication material.

• Corrects and edit Library of Congress or other existing cataloging records. • Supplements bibliographic description with classification and subject headings.

• Support review of staff cataloging records. • Assist the Manager with special projects, as necessary.

Skills and QualificationsBachelor's degree in Library Science or B.Lib or similar degree;

• Min 2 years of practical cataloging experience in a library or business environment ( Exceptional recent B. Lib graduates with cataloging course may be considered)

• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Detail oriented • Ability to maintain good balance between quality and productivity.

• Well versed in Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

• Knowledge of automated library systems and national cataloging standards and policies preferred.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, and volume.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
