Dear Mr. Handa

I also have a bitter experience:

In my previous workplace which was an engg college, our institute started Nursing. Management called me and asked me to find some person for new library to be set up. But unfortunately they were not ready to pay for a librarian. Their logic was that a library restorer will be sufficient for a small library which will be beneficial for management in terms of money. They were not ready to accept that any technical work is there in library. Then at last I gave them a demo of library activities and responsibilities of librarian. Ultimately they were ready and now there is a separate librarian  for nursing. But it shows the mentality of management and other faculty about library and library staff.

Yes Mr. Mahipal Sharma, this is true about many such organizations who want their Institute Libraries function without a Librarian.

This is time we have to make them aware that we are not an unwanted stuff in their system.

dont know y people r just nt aware of the library's importance ............... y library professionals have go through bitter experience...........i got so many people advising me to leave this profession ...........but i want to get success in this field.......but in punjab ........people have such a low thinking

Dear Sarabjit, I praise your effort for going ahead with this profession. Once you have chosen something which you percieve is better for your career, then there should not be any looking back. Doesn't matter what people say about it.

Just be confident, try pushing up the authorities in your organization regarding your requirements. Eventually it is going to bear fruits one day. If need be, take help from other professionals.

really sir u r very right..................with me also same thing happening

My dear you are not single in the affair...there may be hundereds like you facing the same problem.

Some more experiences I want to be shared and discussed by dear professionals.........

Dear Tarvidner Singh Handa Ji,

Today i also want to share my experience in 2003.  I was selected in KV and posted in Tinsukia Assam.  When I joined, i came to know that the Library was closed since last four years and charge was with one Physical Educaiton Teacher.  After my taking charge, the Principal called me and instruct me to do all computer related clerical work after school time minimum upto 4.00 p.m..  I objected as there was sufficent clerical staff.  At last principal started to issue Advisory Notes and adviced me to arrange whole library within two days which was in lock since last four years.  I took the challenge and arranged all library with records.  I found that around 350 books were issued to various teachers on register without signed.  I instantly reported the same to the Pricipal who ignored my proceedings.  I was around 2300 k.m. far away from my home town and i consulted the situation from my father.  He directed me to resign.  The very next day i resigned and faxed all facts to KV Authorities from where i could not get any reply till date.  I submitted my one month salary as per rule to the School.  Even after i had to wait for seventeen days for handing over charge to one SUPW  Teacher.

Yes Mr. Akash, this is the worst situation in our profession that higher authorities do not take much interest in libraries particularly in schools.
