Impact factor of a journal indicates the average number of citations to the articles published in that particular journal whether it is a journal in the field of science or technology or social sciences. Impact factor is an indicator of relevance/significance of the journal in its field.

The concept of the impact factor has been devised by Eugene Garfield.

The journals having higher impact factor are considered more important than having lower impact factor. Impact factor is used to compare various journals in the same field of study.
Impact factor is a measure of citation to science and social science journals.It is devised by Eugene Garfield.
It is calculated on the basis of three -years periods.
